Little Green Heroes

Festive Reindeers

Keep little hands busy over the holidays with this very cute Christmas craft, which would make a great gift or a marvellous addition to the lunch table on the big day.

Sustainability, no-waste, festive

Materials

  • Yallamundi Farm egg carton
  • Brown cardstock
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Brown paint or marker pen
  • Googly eyes
  • Pom-poms
  • Glue

Method

  1. Cut the pointy bits from the inside of a Yallamundi egg carton to be transformed into your reindeer heads.

  2. Colour the outside brown and cut a slit one third of the way down one of the ridges – you will use this slit to slide the reindeer head onto the body.

  3. Make a stencil for your reindeer body and antlers by drawing the shape of one antler and the silhouette of a reindeer body onto a piece of paper.

  4. Fold the brown cardstock with enough room for the body stencil to go along the fold – this will allow you to cut out a body with four legs that stands up as an a-frame. Line your stencil up with the back of the reindeer on the fold and trace around it.

  5. Next, trace the antler shape onto the flap of cardstock. Cut both shapes out to get one reindeer body and two mirrored antlers.

  6. Glue two googly eyes on the egg-carton face, making sure the slit you cut into the head is sitting at the chin.

  7. Glue a pom pom onto the end to make a nose, then use a little sticky tape to stick the antlers to the inside of the head.

  8. Unfold the body slightly to allow the four legs to stand. Gently slide the head onto the body by inserting the back into the slit you cut. Adjust the head to allow the reindeer to balance, securing with a small piece of tape if you want to keep it in place permanently.

  9. Place your reindeer around the house in unlikely places for a Christmas surprise.
