We’ve got big plans for trees here on the farm…
Today is National Tree Day – the biggest tree-planting and nature care event in Australia’s calendar. Founded by Planet Ark in 1996, it’s a call for people all over the country to get their hands dirty and give back to the community by planting native trees. Around 300,000 people each year give up their time to get involved – helping educate Australians about the crucial importance of trees in our environment and the wider health of the planet.
Here at Yallamundi, the sustainability and community-centric focus of National Tree Day is something we can really get behind. Caring for the planet has always been central to our work here – it informs everything we do, and can be seen in our many solar panels, our recycled and compostable cartons and our regenerative rotating sheds. We’ve also put aside a significant amount of land for a bustling biodiversity corridor – an area that encourages the return of environmentally important animals, insects and plant life – and we worked hard to make our eggs Australia’s first totally carbon neutral egg.
Achieving carbon neutral status for our eggs saw us plant many, many trees, and we were delighted when we achieved our goal. However, we’re now on a mission to go further – cementing our status as a true pioneer of Aussie sustainable farming. Plans are afoot to set out on a very special tree-planting journey, which we can’t wait to share with you. For now, watch this space for more – and consider going outside and planting a native tree today!
